Time seemed to drag at the temple after Lilith returned. The Jedi she once found interested or insightful seemed pale shadows now mere ghosts compared to the man she’d met and left on Alderaan. They’d been curious about her stay on the planet asking her pleasantly if she enjoyed her time there, Lilith responded amicable enough stating only that it had been more then she ever expected and left it at that. Her mind tried to reason to her that she should tell someone about Orlan but her heart… her heart couldn’t bear to betray him despite everything she learnt and saw. She kept her silence, reasoning that surely if he was a threat to the Jedi that somehow soon they’d discover his existence but all the while silently preyed that they would not.

Conversation with the other Jedi did not flow like it used too as she took to watching their body language, their facial expressions and wonder if they had a hidden motives or agendas after all, if Sifo-Dyas couldn’t be trusted then who among them could? She hid her suspicions well though only Alyea Jinn a padawan and childhood friend noticed the subtle change in her demeanour and confronted her about it. In the shadow of the temple Lilith explained herself, telling Alyea that she met someone on Alderaan and a kiss had been shared. It wasn’t exactly a lie and Alyea thankfully did not notice the underlying tone in her voice, hugging her friend and telling her that she did the right thing separating herself from him and surely it would get easier just as it was getting easier each day for her not to think about her fallen Master.

It didn’t get easier though. Lilith realised she was spending more time paying attention to the political game the senate was playing, watching for any small signs of corruption within it though it was not her place too. She noticed things she never did before, an odd look, a questionable alliance and slowly Lilith started to question whether the system really worked. Was she really serving the greater good or the one with the deepest pockets and most faked sincere smile? Meditation seemed to elude her as every time she closed her sight she saw his face graced with that smile and her heart would shudder at the loss. Practicing her lightsabre forms had become her one release and she spent hours in the training rooms, dancing and perfecting the art, at times she could have sworn it felt like she was preparing for something. Today seemed to be proving the exception though. For the last several nights she was being haunted by the same dream, always of Orlan. Thrashing tongues, soft sighs and gentle caresses – it seemed so real that she often woke covered in the thin film of sweat and a quaking desire still pulsing in places she was embarrassed to think about. Desire. It was new to her and she didn’t know how to acknowledge or control it so she threw herself even deeper into her training but still she couldn’t stop hearing his voice echo back to her across her memories.

“You are extending your swings too far…”

“Bend at the waist as much as the knee….”

Lilith heard herself utter a growl under her breath, frustrated that she couldn’t loose herself anymore. Her swings became sharper, deflecting the bolts from the training droid with ease as her stance grew more aggressive, at times her blade was almost a blur as it whistled and hummed around her body. “You look even more beautiful here…” The droid unable to adjust fast enough to her increased pace suddenly was sliced neatly in two, falling to the ground with a clatter electric sparks shot across its two halves before falling dormant. There was a murmur of stupefied awe from the other Jedi training at the opposite end of the room, the droid had verged on its maximum level mere moments before she’d struck it down.

Lilith breathed deeply, filling her lungs with air as she let her head fall back on the column of her neck and tried to catch her breath. From somewhere off to her right she heard the door to the room open and a familiar voice of a Jedi Master called her name, “Lilith Tran?”

It had been many years since Orlan had walked in the very den of his enemies. Once, the Jedi temple had been a pillar of might and wisdom. Now, their vaunted light was slowly being extinguished, choked out as the pall of the Dark Side fell across the galaxy. Orlan had sensed the change when it had began, and he had no doubt that the Jedi would have felt it as well. Where once Orlan would have been wary of this place, he could stride its halls with impunity now, hidden from even their wisest minds. Was his enemy doing the same, another Sith hidden out there roaming the temple, hiding themselves in the same way Orlan did? It was a possibility, and one that filled him with a touch of excitement and more than a hint of fear. If he were discovered here, by Jedi or Sith...

And yet while his mind was a maelstrom of emotion, his face was a mask of serenity. There were many Jedi here that he knew personally, and none of them any the wiser of who or what he was. His own money or political influence often aided the Jedi cause, never mind that his intention was never as altruistic as they believed. He was welcome in this place, and the humor of that concept came closer to breaking the mask of serenity than any other that he felt.

Dressed in simply tailored clothing of the finest cloth, Orlan stood out in the temple like a sore thumb. While their clothing was of the blandest colours, his were bright and playful, bringing cheer into the temple. Younglings gawked and their minders urged them to whatever path they were taking. Occasional Jedi Knights would glance his way, but he paid them no heed. Jedi Master Kit Fisto spoke to Orlan simply, and the Count replied just as frankly. Both shared concern that the events in Naboo years ago seemed to still have lingering echos in the galaxy at large today. Orlan had agreed to assist the Order in keeping an eye parts of the Outer Rim, and he in return had asked for a tour of the temple. Master Fisto himself far too busy to escort his friend, he had gone looking for someone to stand in his stead.

Was it chance of the Force that had drawn them to the room Lilith practiced in? To keep his presence in the Force hidden, Orlan could not influence events around him any further than his natural charisma would allow, but he had not doubted that somehow Lilith would end up his guide. He remained by Fisto's side, his eyes casually roaming the room, but when they met Lilith, he let himself smile. He could not completely smother the sense of joy he felt at seeing her again.

Lilith sighed internally, Jedi always managed to find you exactly when you didn’t want them too the most. Her fingers ran through her hair as she turned to face the Master a false smile she’d come used to donning at the temple these days already on her lips. That’s when it happened, all of a sudden Lilith noticed the flamboyant figure standing next to Master Fisto and her heart contracted in unadulterated joy when she recognised a hearteat later for it to be Orlan. The moment their gaze met time stopped and allowed them to be the only two which existed within the universe, a conversation flowed between them, overlapping questions and sentiments – what are you doing here? Why did you come? It’s dangerous for you here! ... Did you miss me as much as I missed you? Never spoken just exchanged in that one look alone. Lilith couldn’t separate what she was feeling from his own or perhaps it was all her because she noted he was suppressed once more hiding his aura, did he even hear the exchange in such a state?

The moment passed, unseen, the weight of it unfelt by others as Lilith deactivated her lightsabre and returned it to her back. Inside her heart was racing, a duel fear of seeing him again and how seeing him again caused her to feel. After all, wasn’t this the exact reason she’d abandoned him on Alderaan, if so, why did it feel so good to have him back? Where was the evil in that? Her step only faltered slightly, not perceivable to the Jedi Master but certainly to Orlan but then he knew her better then any other being ever did before, he’d seen the core of who she was and smiled.

Her voice was soft but certain as she came down and stood by their side, her back straight her gaze leaving Orlan’s to skim to Masters in feigned interest. “Yes, Master Fisto? Can I help you?” Her gaze strayed to Orlan again as the Master introduced them to one another and continued onto explained that a tour of the temple had been requested but his time was already spoken and if she could obliged in his stead. Lilith extending her hand her tone remained as calm as ever but her fingers trembled faintly as they brushed against his. Shaking his hand as if she’d never laid eyes on him before right in front of the Jedi Master caused a thrill to shoot down her spine and a fragmented rush of her dream returned only the faintest of moans tickling her mind but it was enough to cause her to drop his hand in shock and step back, “A pleasure to meet you.” Lilith tried vaguely to convince herself that the only reason she spoke next was because the Master asked her and would think it unusual for her to refuse but she couldn’t deny the truth, she wanted desperately to be near Orlan again, alone. “Of course, Master Fisto,” and to Orlan, “I hope you will find my company adequate, sir. This way.”

She moved with liquid grace and stood by the door, waiting for him to exchange his farewells with the Master. How could Fisto not see what he was? How could any of them not see right through his mask, how many instead swayed by his charm? How many Sith roamed the halls of Jedi temples across worlds without anyone noticing? She’d come to accept that what Orlan had shown her on Alderaan was the truth. It had to be, she’d seen it with her own eyes now but did it justify the risk he ran coming here. Had Orlan known that she’d dare not tell the Jedi of him, well, of course he’d obviously assumed or he wouldn’t be here so boldly. She glanced up again towards him and realised she was attracted to his arrogance, to that part of him which strode through their halls with utter confidence despite the Jedi presence. That thought brought a smile to her lips, a private one just for him but it faded a second later as the rational part of her jumped in and demanded to know what she was doing, she’d fought so hard to be rid of these feelings and here she was revelling in them, was she a Jedi or not?

As Orlan started after her she didn’t know the answer to that question any longer but she sensed the moment which she would find out in was drawing rapidly closer. The anticipation of that made each look they gave one another more intimate, each time they accidently brushed against each other more meaningful. She fell into step besides him not sure what to say but then did words even matter to either one of them now. Lilith didn’t know the answer to that question either as she glanced up at him sideways; wondering if a part of him was feeling the same things too.

How did he manage to remain so calm? Never before had he felt his emotions threatening to overwhelm him stronger than now, and yet somehow the mask he wore did not slip. The simplicity of her grace took his breath away. At the same moment he wanted to retreat further into himself and away from the Force that they might share this moment for all eternity; and he wanted to immerse himself deeply within the Force and caress her with it, let the whole temple feel what he felt. Her skin on his and he was connected to her physically once more. It was electric, and for a moment he could hear the beginnings of a soft moan echoing in her mind. She let his hand fall away, but his smile could only broaden. She felt it as strongly as he did! His farewells with Fisto could not have come fast enough, but he refused to rush it. To have her so close now he would accept no mistakes, nothing to draw suspicion. The Master thanked him for his efforts in aiding them. He thanked the Master for the tour. A few more final pleasantries and Fisto was away, leaving Orlan alone with her, finally.

He had no intention of pushing her here. They were both overcome with emotion, excited by the presence of the other, thrilled at the hints of possible intimacy. He let her lead, playing the part of the tourist with ease. The Temple had always fascinated him, and he could play to that, but his enjoyment in it now was staled. Next to her, the Temple was greyscale, a disappointing mesh of washed out color filled with caricatures that never quite fleshed out into full blow people, never becoming anything more than scenery. The marvels of the temple were lost in the sound of her voice and the looks in her eyes. Never could the Temple hold significance for him again; for despite all of the Holocrons and ancient texts, mysterious crystals and architectural wonders, Orlan stood with the Temples greatest treasure. While in her presence, nothing else mattered.

At all times he wore the face of the charismatic Count that he allowed the Republic to see, but he thrilled to the fact that she could see through that mask now, and could not mistake the intention behind the inflection of certain words he used or looks he gave her. In this moment, in the blossoming of what could become a new romance, they had a language all to their own, one that even the Jedi were blind to. A touch of her hair. 'You are looking good.' A comment about her physical prowess in the training room. Are you alright? A comment to the pleasure of her company. I am glad to be here with you. A veiled reference to the good old times on Alderaan. Did you miss me, as I have missed you? Countless things passed between them, spoken and unspoken, and it only added to the magic.

He had held all the cards on Alderaan, and now, by coming to the Temple, he had given her her own fair share, to let her play or hide as she see fit. Now it was not his affection for her, but the formation of something new, the relationship between them struggling to find life in a place so alien to such feelings as the Jedi Temple. Orlan nurtured that sensation, that relationship, with all he had. Would she do the same?

Lilith found Orlan’s company to be just as exhilarating as it had been on Alderaan, however here in the Temple, despite the limitations on what they could say to one another aloud she felt at ease. There was still a hint of danger but now she was in on the secret, a secret no one else knew and it gave her a sense of control in amongst the uncertainty she was feeling. It was a kind of freedom she’d never experienced before, strange and intoxicating. He laughed when she did and exchanged the same secret smiles, they had an understanding no one else could ever be privy too. Lilith realised that despite the short time she’d spent within his company he’d made her consider her life before as being lived in chains until, bound and restricted by a Jedi code which warned against this kind of connection with someone. But why, if it was wrong though to feel this good in someone else’s presence then Lilith was rapidly being converted into a fulltime sinner. She felt as if she was coming alive, awakening to herself and a world full of emotions she’d never before considered. And Orlan? He was everything she ever believed him to be - witty, intelligent, handsome, charming. Yes, he distracted her thoughts, broke her calm every now and then when he complimented her and she felt her heart skip a beat but in return he gave her so much more, a promise of a connection, a relationship, how could that be wrong?

Time flew, she didn’t know how long they wondered the Temple conversing but by the time they strolled into the small garden flanking the temple she’d come to the conclusion that she never really wanted to be without him again. Orlan had stolen a kiss from her on Alderaan and as the shadows lengthened across the grass, under the shade of one of the rare trees on Coruscant Lilith took it back. She may of taken him by surprise as her hand rested on his chest and leaned in their lips meeting in the lightest of touches, her own trembling faintly with inexperience only innocence could give. The contact didn’t last long; it couldn’t there were too many eyes in the temple which might accidently stumble across this private rendezvous and the game would be shattered.

Her mind reeled with the contact though as she stepped back; her bowed and muttered a gentle apology as her cheeks stained crimson. She wanted desperately to speak to him openly, find out why he’d taken such a risk by coming to Coruscant and she suspected he wanted the same. The problem was there was only one place she knew on Temple grounds where that could happen and the thought made her ivory cheeks colour further. Was she to invite a man into her quarters? Her tongue gently ran across her bottom lip as she considered who knew when she’d be able to see him again – it was a risk she might have to take. Lilith leaned in once again on her tippy toes and whispered the location to her room into his ear with a rushed breath before turning and walking away, not sure if the invitation had been accepted or decline. A ploy not unfamiliar with Orlan as he used it himself on her when he extended and invite to dinner expect she was willing to be this heart didn’t thunder in his ears as he extended it.

She didn’t dare look back once as she returned to her room; maybe he’d follow her, maybe not. She never in a million years had escorted him here, the very thought was too intimate for her to comprehend, had too many hidden layers of possibility and innuendo that she was wholly unfamiliar with. Inside her comfortable space she bit her lip lightly suddenly very aware of its small confines and her body and darted to brush her hair. What had she done…

The intimacy they experienced was like nothing he had ever experienced. Nothing could compare to the thrill of it. By the end of their walk, the two had become as one. They were finishing each others sentences, noticing everything about each other, sharing their emotions. Orlan had lived a life where just about anything he had ever wanted had been made available to him, and only now was he realizing how shallow those wants had been. Here was what he wanted, this intimacy, these feelings, this woman. Here was something that was worth living for. It thrilled him so much that he could barely maintain his cover, balancing on the edge of revealing himself to the Jedi around them. Then came the greatest of thrills. The invitation. Had she intended what he had inferred from the invitation to her private chambers? One could only hope. She had raced on ahead of him, and he could not hide the smile on his face. She was already copying his own quirks, learning from him on a level he had never expected. He followed her path casually, making his way towards the location she had given him. His face was warm, his smile genuine, and none stopped him as he made his way through the temple. He saw no familiar faces, and that was perhaps for the best. He would not be long for the temple, he felt, and it was important to him that she not be tainted by association, that she could always call the temple home.

Now, as he approached her door, his excitement and nervousness both reached fever pitch. She was behind that door, merely feet from him. It had only been minutes since he had lost sight of her, but those minutes alone had been far too long, stretching until each tick of the clock was like an eternity without her. He was not afraid of these emotions, instead he was elated. He savored each moment of agony that being without her caused, as well as each moment of excitement that each step closer to her door brought him. It was his emotions that defined him, and that gave him strength. His fingers rose, gently pressing to the door. Would she sense that he was there as he knew she was on the other side, and open the door for him?

Lilith was glad her room was uncluttered as she hastened to and fro; straightening the same ornaments she’d collected in her travel which was already perfectly aligned, smoothing down her bed that didn’t have wrinkles to start off with. He’d be here soon within her inner sanctum and she knew he’d pay it far greater scrutiny then any other being had before. He would notice the painting on the wall, a large rectangular canvas of abstract art varying shades of blue and wonder why she’d hung it there. What she saw within its shifting tones. He’d see that she’d picked up the colour in various other places, on the shelf a small blue gem she’d collected on a mission, the candle which sat on the inset above her bed, he’d see and he would know her intentions behind them, the aesthetic appeal and the vanity.

Her lightsabre she rested upon the glass top of the small, circular table which sat to one side of the room. She straightened the two metallic chairs which flanked it and then darted over to plump the one blue pillow on the white, two-seater couch on the far wall. Apart from her bed that was the extent of her room and everything was in place but still he wasn’t here and she wrung her hands nervously though for what reason she didn’t know. Once more she was on the move bustling into the small facilities which made up the only other room in her quarters. There was only a tiny white vanity, a mirror, shower and toilet – no ornaments in here, no collection of makeup which might be scattered across other women’s bathrooms or hints of blue to break up the white surface. Clearly Lilith didn’t need or want to put a lot of attention into her appearance, though in this moment she did snatch up the one accessory she had a hair brush and raked it through her dark locks once, twice, three times and on. How could such a pleasant afternoon end up like this, she wondered, how could she feel so nervous and excited about seeing him when they only parted company mere minuets ago and they’d been laughing together like they’d know each other for years instead of moments.

Her attention snapped back to the door and she hands shook. Fever pitched and her stomach back flipped, he was there, she didn’t know how she knew but she did. Slowly she placed the hairbrush back into its place on top of the counter and realised her hands were trembling faintly and an excitement was building on her belly, nervous anticipation but for what? She practically snuck out of her bathroom, small hesitant steps as meekly she made her way to the door almost as if she were afraid he’d be alerted to her presence and speak. As if the heavy silence was somehow a last barrier of protection, the moment she’d let him in it would be gone and who knows what would follow in its wake. Her hand lifted faintly and her fingers pressed gently to the door. How did the Jedi not feel the current running through her or notice she was more alive now then she’d ever been in her life.

She went to raise her other hand and it must have accidently brushed against the panel because the door opened and there he was. She paused in surprise; her fingers still were they had been pressed to the door a moment ago frozen but now brushing instead against his own. She went to speak but no words would come out, Pandora’s Box was open.

His fingers touched hers, and the lightning that ran down his spine took his breath away. No one had been able to make Orlan surrender as easily as he did to that sensation now. It took his breath away. His fingers slowly entwined with her own, until his hand held hers firmly. How long did he stand in that hall, peering into her room, into her eyes? He had no way of knowing. Time stood still. Did her voice break him from his reverie, or was it some noise he had made reflexively? He stepped into the room slowly, bringing himself ever closer to her, and he heard the door close itself behind him.

She had caught him unawares with the kiss outside, and now it was his turn to return the favor. Before words had been exchange, before she had a chance to pull away, his head bowed and his lips met hers. It was a gentle kiss, he did not allow his passions for her ruin the moment. Her lips were warm and soft, just as he remembered them. He pulled back from the kiss reluctantly, and his fingers finally relaxed, releasing her hand should she take it. He had no words now, the time for words seemed past to him.

Lilith felt like she was balancing precariously on some unseen ledge. Since she met Orlan curiosity and some unknown desire had spurred her to creep closer and closer to the side, wondering for the first time what the view might look like if she could only muster the courage to see it. This connection they were forging was beautiful to her, if not a little frightening at how quickly it had flourished. Was this all it had to offer though? This sensation, this contact was euphoric so why did her body burn when he cast his gaze her way? Why did she instinctively curl her fingers tightly around his own again as he went to release hers if there was not some hidden dimension to it she was not yet aware of. She rested her forehead lightly against his chest, her delicate hand trembling faintly within his larger one. When he kissed her Lilith had felt something inside of her tighten, an exhilarating shiver coursed through her body and invaded parts she’d never thought to explore before. It ignited her core instincts and it was hormones which caused her to step closer to him, to allow her body to brush against his own but beyond that she was lost.

Domesticated animals when freed are lost. They’d hover somewhere in purgatory, caught between the desire for freedom and the only life they had ever known. Quite often if they are not shown the way forward they will lie down again and wait for a Master to return, chaining themselves to the spot in fear and uncertainty. Lilith was the same; she simply did not know what to do with this new found freedom Orlan had shown her. Now, alone with him in her room so close to entering the woods to start anew she was casting her glance backward to the welcome sight of home, of the easy comforts it offered. Her Jedi training was all she knew, all she ever thought she needed to know and it did not help her in this situation and in fact it strongly disencouraged it.

Her fingers flexed around his, gripped tighter. She wanted him to kiss her again, to show her the way as he did in the woods on Alderaan but how was she meant to let him know that. “I can see it now, in the senate.” Her voice was a whisper against his skin, uncertain if she was allowed to speak or if she’d broken some kind of taboo breaking the silence, “I didn’t tell anyone about you, you didn’t know that… so why did you take the risk… why did you come?” She glanced up to him again finally, her lips brushed over his chin and cheek as she did and again came the quaking desire, the edge was right there. One more step and she’d see the view! Her dream surfaced again, the overlapping moans echoed from her mind and rather then shy away from them, she listened. As if on cue suddenly the Force showed her the way, she knew how to get out of purgatory and let Orlan know to lead her into a new life. Her fingers of her free hand stroked his cheek softly, trembling faintly with anticipation. When she spoke her tone was laced with a kind of awe only a new and truly startling discovery could bring, “I love you.”

Her words spilled over him like water, as his hands caressed her neck and shoulders. Her confirmation and her question, and then finally, those three words that made her his. So many women before her had spoken them, but the response they drew were new and unexpected. "I love you," he whispered to her. Too far gone in his need for her, in his great desire, he could not care what words came from his mouth, or hers. Lost in the flurry of emotions, of clothing and sheets, of touches and kisses, the world swirled away into nothingness. She was hungry to learn, and he was eager to teach her. There would be no holding back from either of them now. The light outside faded, the warmth inside grew. Entwined in each other, physically and spiritually, they did not notice. They spoke, they loved, they laughed, and time itself seemed to stand still for them, letting this moment pass on far longer that it seemed possible. There would be questions and concerns for later, but they were washed away in the passion of the everlasting moment. Later, when this beautiful gestalt they had become separated into the individual people that composed of it, they would speak and deal with their questions and concerns.
