The Danthior was in low orbit around the planet of Naboo. The ship was massive, far larger than anything the little padawan had ever even considered in his wildest dreams. No doubt by now his new Master was as tired of his constant questions and exploration trips as the technicians aboard the ship were impressed by his ability to pick up the knowledge that they offered. He seemed to have an almost instinctual grasp of the mechanics and schematics of the ship, and every question lead to increased knowledge.

He tried to keep quiet, he truly did. He did not want to offend Master Senna, and he knew that a constant tirade of questions was probably the quickest way to achieve that. But as much as he tried, his little mind was nagging him, hungry for more knowledge, more data. He was finding all of this absolutely fascinating, and he was not afraid to show it.

The problems and adventures of the trip were behind him now however. He and his Master were aboard the bridge of the ship, Senna thanking the captain for transporting them, even if they were just tag-alongs on a completely different Republic mission. Tinki should be paying attention, but the view outside of the window had captivated him. He had never seen such beautiful greens and blues in his life, as he saw now out the view screen. Naboo was a plethora of colour and beauty.

It was nice having a companion to accompany her on her voyages. Senna had been eager since taking Tinki on as a padawan to show him the universe though she suspected they probably should have stayed at the temple on Coruscant whilst in the initial stages of Tinki’s training. Perhaps they both could have used the stability and calm of the temple for a while longer as they got used to their new role of teacher and student. Senna thought it was especially true now as she realised she certainly could have used the advice of her old Master on this voyage simply because Tinki had taken her totally by surprise with the amount of questions she asked on almost every convincible subject. Unbeknownst to her padawan, Senna was secretly at a total loss on what she should teach him and in what order, what she should expect and what they could achieve together, what was realistic and when did her standards stray into the impossible. Privately she did not mind his questions in the least but rather chastised herself for not being able to give him better answers to them. His hunger for new information at times seemed to exceed her knowledge and she was questioning her wisdom at choosing him as a padawan, surely she was holding back his training simply with her lack of wisdom.

Still he was her padawan and she’d have to just continue on the best she could, hopefully the Force would guide her actions and shape her to be somewhat of a respectable Master for the young Jawa. She watched him now, his little face practically glued to the window gazing at the planet below them. She shook the Captains hand, thanking him for his assistance before turning to Tinki and resting her hand lightly on his shoulder, “Come along now, Tinki, we’ll miss the shuttle.”

As they settled into the shuttle which transported them to the surface Senna shifted in her seat, feeling she should be saying something to him. “Um… Naboo is about thirty-four thousand light years from the Core. It is a planet of great beauty; many people have vacation homes here amongst the lake country.” She smiled softly, recalling what she learnt in school as a padawan herself and cringed faintly knowing Tinki probably knew it all himself but she couldn’t think of anything else to say, “The swamps are home to the native Gungans whilst the human population tends to stay mostly in the great cities they built here…. and did I tell you why we are here?” She tilted her head, honestly not remembering as the ship landed and the doors opened upon the great city of Theed.

The moment his Master's hand came to rest on his shoulder, Tinki,s mind was snatched back, from the train of thought that had rocketed its way all around the ship to the here and now. Always be mindful of the present, he reminded himself silently. But did it have to be so hard? There was so many interesting parts and machines and... No! Focused. Calm. The tiny Jedi took a deep, slow breath to help center himself, and glanced to his Master. She had said their shuttle would be leaving, and Tinki did not want to make her late for anything, ever.

Their trip to the shuttle was a swift one, and all the while Tinki was doing his best to hold back his questions. Patience, they had taught him at the Temple, and oh how he had tried to take on everything they had said. Patience was an important part of being a Jedi, but such energetic curiosity was an integral part of being a Jawa. Oh, what was he to do, caught between two such colossal responsibilities? One way or another, he knew he would find a way to balance the two, with Senna's help. Ah, Senna! How lucky Tinki was. She was so gentle and wise, allowing him to indulge his curiosity but reigning him in from letting it run too far. She had already been far better for him than the Temple had been, and he could only see things getting even better from here on in.

Now it was Senna's turn to ask a question of Tinki, and just after she had he was glad that the hood of his robes kept his rodent features hidden. Could she see the way the whiskers on his long nose twitched in embarrassment as he realized he could not answer her question as she had done her best to answer all of his? "Tinki... Tinki does not remember." His voice was very small, a soft squeak in comparison to the stronger voice he has used earlier to ask so much.

Her hand was gentle as she placed in on his shoulder, reassuring him that he’d done no harm by not knowing the answer. “I am here to assist with negotiations with the two native cultures of this world, the Naboo and the Gungans.” She offered Tinki a smile as the shuttle landed and she made her way into the city. Senna drifted lazily through the crowd towards Theed Palace where the discussions would take place. Her mission was important but not so much that she could not give Tinki the time to truly soak in the experience of being off world for the first time after growing up in the temple.

She remembered what it was like going on her first mission as a padawan on Dantooine. She’d felt surprised and in awe of the different culture. Unlike Tinki she’d been born and raised on opulent worlds and whilst she was well aware that the terrain would surely change she’d was genuinely shocked to see that different cultures had different types of architecture and different modes of transport. A twofold lesson had been learnt that day. The first being, never assume anything and the second came as a bit of a surprise to both her and her Master. They both learnt that she had a kind of empathy with the Force. She could actually sense a type of aura – subtle or not so subtle differences which coloured the way the Force felt in her mind as it was affected by the shifting moods of the people who lived there. She’d almost drowned in the sensation, listening to the hypnotic hum of life but that was another story.

Senna let Tinki explore but reminding him to be mindful of his surroundings and only moving him on when was needed until they entered the palace where she had to turn her attention back to other matters. She bowed as they were greeted by a gentleman who introduced himself as the Naboo Representative, Trask Windle. Senna smiled and returned the formality, placing her hand proudly on Tinki’s shoulders one more. “This is my padawan, Tinki.” She tilted her head and offered the unnamed and ignored helper to the representative a smile, “Perhaps whilst we get down to business your associate can show Tinki our room?”

After the diplomatic nodded she stepped to one side to speak privately to Tinki and knelt down, mindful that too often had to strain his neck to look up at her and lowered her voice. “These negotiations will be… tedious.” She offered him a flicker of a playful smile, “You can go explore the city, if you like.” She handed him the small communicator and winked, “ I'll meet you back at our quarters for dinner.”

Explore the city? It seemed an offer too good to be true, and as usual, Tinki needed to remind himself of the Jedi Code. There is no passion, there is serenity. "Senna Master does not need Tinki's help?" His voice was soft to keep others from overhearing. He did not like the sound of tedious negotiations, but he would gladly face them for Senna. After all, it was part of his duty that he would have to fulfill as a Jedi himself one day. There were many things that he found odd or distasteful that he did because of his new position. However, the Force was with him this day, because at Senna's insistence, he was free to go. He followed the aide to the rooms he would be sharing with Senna, made sure all of their belongings were safely stored, and prepared for his next adventure.

His broad travelers hat shaded him from the bright sun. The Jawa robes that usually kept a Jawa cool in the deserts of Tattooine actually served to warm him in the very mild climate of Naboo. He slowly applied his facial wrappings and set the golden gemstones over his eyes, helping block the UV radiation from his sensitive pupils. Although Naboo was about as far different from Tattooine as Coruscant had been, many Jawa items still fulfilled a purpose here. There was a lesson to be learned there, he thought, about things built for one select purpose can be adapted to many other things, but perhaps that lesson was for a wiser mind than his. The hilt of his little shota was magnetically fastened to his utility belt, comically small for any hands except for those of a tiny stature like the Jawa. His left hand went ferreting up his right sleeve, and produced the little droid he had been working on for so long. With a faint hum it came to life, and began to circle around his head. "Morning, D1-Z1E."

Equipment ready, and companion by his side, the tiny Jawa was prepared. He looked at himself in the mirror, and straightened his posture slightly. He was not just a Jawa of the Nkik clan, but a member of the Jedi order as well. He needed to look immaculate, and act sensibly. He would do his best to make sure that his behavior helped make his Master look good. "Tinki and D1 go exploring, yes yes?"

Senna felt drained that evening as she finally made her way to the accommodation the representatives had allowed Tinki and herself to use whilst the negotiations were in progress. Normally she had no problem with these kinds of missions and really she didn't now, it was just that the relations between the Naboo and the Gungans historically were rocky and the two representatives seemed determined to continue with that tradition. For every step forward there had been at least three back and they’d ended the session today seeming further away from resolving the issue then they had going into the meeting.

The problem seemed to stem from the cultural differences between the Gungans and Naboo, which Senna found perplexing as both had many things in common as far as she concerned. Yes, one was land bound and the preferring grand underwater cities but both had a determination to survive, to do what was best for their people and uphold their traditions however different they may be at the core foundation. Stubbornness and bitterness are powerful things to overcome but Senna recited the Jedi code to herself quietly firming her resolve and patience each time they stared to wear her down.

She stretched lightly inside the room, losing the muscles of her shoulders and neck wondering idly how Tinki spent his day. She called him on the communicator as soon as she’d left the conference but apparently arrived back before in the room before him. She took the time alone to relax, splash her face with refreshing water and generally recharge her batteries before her whirlwind of padawan of questions returned to probe her limited intellect once more.

Theed! It almost rivaled the Temple on Coruscant for beauty, and greatly surpassed Tinki's former home in terms of size. The city was massive and there was so much for the little Jawa to see and do, but before he had barely gone anywhere, the view had stopped him dead in his tracks. The city was built on a sheer cliff over a vast flood plain, and the sight of such splendor and greenery took Tinki's breath away. The small water ways streaming through the flood plain sparkled silvery blue against the vibrant green of the plant life, and he had never beheld such colors in his short little life. He could have stood there and stared all day, had D1-Z1E not given him a quick hoot and whistle to remind him to keep moving. There was a lot to see in Theed.

Tinki was glad of the many features he had chosen to install in his droid as they made their way through the Parnelli Museum of Art. D1 would be able to display pictures and holograms of many of the masterpieces they saw, and while that would not recapture their beauty, it would help Tinki remember. He had no head for art himself, but he did enjoy to look at pretty things now and again. D1 hovered around the little Jawa, taking as many recordings as he could secretly get away with, being well familiar with his creators fondness for such things. The Theed Space Port gave the inquisitive padawan the chance to ask a lot more questions about ships and mechanics to the workers there, and for most part, everyone was polite to the member of the Jedi order, and he appreciated both their kindness and their patience. But it was the Theed University that made Tinki feel most at home. It had an air of learning, just like the Temple, and everyone was ready to answer whatever questions he could think of to ask them. D1 dutifully followed its master from location to location, recording everything it thought valuable.

Tinki had been on his way towards the Royal Library when Senna had contacted him on the communicator. He had completely lost track of time, but he managed to not reveal that fact to Senna. The conversation had been brief, and Tinki had kept his tone eager and excited, not revealing any of the distress he felt upon realising he would be late. The moment the connection had closed, the little Jedi was away, racing through the streets of the city on his way back to their rooms. He used his small stature and agile limbs to his advantage, ducking down tiny alleys and rolling under stalls and vehicles. His little chest rose and fell in a controlled rhythm, the Jedi order had prepared him well for large amounts of physical exertion. He did not take the main entrance back to their room either, but clambered up the side of the building with the agility of a small rodent, aided with a few Force fuelled jumps, and found himself soon slinking in through one of the windows and quickly looking around. "Tinki did it, D1! Now Master Senna need never know Tinki lost track of time, yes yes?"

The droid heard Tinki's excited question and could clearly make out the words, despite the Jawa's panting, but he still did not bother to reply just yet. From its higher vantage point, the droid could clearly see what Tinki did not, the Jedi knight sitting comfortable on the settee, who had clearly overheard Tinki just as well as D1 had. Its only reply was a soft, sad little whistle.

Senna arched a brow delicately as her padawan burst into the room via the window and a small, amusement smile skimmed across her lips. She knew instantly she should not encourage the type of behaviour but the absurdity of it and the note of triumph and innocence his little voice was more than endearing. Tinki had a marvellous capacity to surprise and delight her in new and unusual ways. For the moment she sat, hand crossed neatly in her laps as the droid noticed her presence and issued its own forlorn whistle. Senna bit back a chuckle, knowing it would probably hurt his feelings more than help the situation and instead her tone was soft, laced with a small amount of amusement as she spoke, “I don’t believe I've had the pleasure of meeting your friend, Tinki?”

She knew her padawan well enough to know he’d be riveted to the spot with embarrassment as soon as he heard her voice. To defuse the situation further and offer him a chance to collect his wits Senna stood fluidly, her agile fingers curled about the glass jug, pouring her young friend a cool glass of water before offering it to him and carrying on the conversation. “Live in the moment, Tinki. I am proud you recognised you were getting lost in the moment and for wanting to be punctual. But, remember don’t let fear or worry hold you back. I did not actually specify a time for you to return.” She petted his head affectionately and then picking him up, glass and all and placed him on the footstool to catch his breath.

She sat once more herself, offering him another serene, genuine amused smile as she did, “Sounds like you had quite the day. Care to tell me how you found Theed? What did you see and learn?”

Still panting for breath, Tinki was not able to inform his Master that the droid was the same little shell she had seen him working upon on and off for the last year or so. D1 was a simple little design, not because Tinki could not handle something more complicated but rather that he preferred simplicity. Realizing that it was being spoken to, D1 introduced itself to Senna with its series of beeps and whistles, not knowing if she could understand or not. Then again, to the droid, perhaps there was no distinction there. It was more concerned with introducing itself than it was with the introduction being properly received.

When Senna picked him up he could not help but smile. Yes it was becoming less and less socially acceptable the older Tinki got, but he enjoyed it. He would have her carrying him around until they were both old and grey, given the chance. She set him down on the foot stool, and his little feet dangled off the edge, rocking back and forth in time with his breathing. "Tinki learned much, yes yes?" He nodded quickly, and then took a little sip of the water. Despite the fact that he had spent most of his life in the Jedi temple on Couruscant, he still held a Jawa's regard for the precious fluid, born of generations of life on a desert planet. He set the glass aside very carefully after another little sip. "Tinki saw there was much to learn. Yes yes. Libraries and space ports and universities. So much to see! Tinki lost track of time in all the excitement. Tinki must remember Jedi code, yes yes. There is no emotion, there is peace. Yes yes." He nodded as he spoke, and then gestured for D1 to join him. "Much to show Senna-Master, yes yes?" D1 was already flashing up images of everything that it had recorded today, and Tinki berated him in broken Jawaese to slow down.

Senna’s eyes flicked to the droid as it started to bleep and despite not being able to speak binary herself, she did not interrupt it, instead she sat patiently with her hands folded in her lap until it had seemingly finished. “A pleasure to meet you, I’m sure. I am Senna.”

She sipped her water calmly as Tinki followed the conversation after his droid left off, perhaps he assumed she could understand it or perhaps to Tinki it did not matter as long as she was polite. Introductions it seemed would be set aside for another day as he launched into his tale, his excitement and youth catching up with him as he tumbled over his words with his usual enthusiasm and twisted dialects. Senna was unsure for a moment whether she was meant to calm him down or simply let him get it all out. She blinked and smiled to herself, wondering how many times her own master posed the same question to herself... when does one encourage and when to reign in? When does the Jedi Code need to be enforced and when should allowances be made for the very young?

Senna did not have long to ponder the question as a knock came from the door, she stood still listening to Tinki and nodding. Upon answering the door she stood back and allowed the young man carrying their dinner in to pass by her into the room, Senna raised her hand to her young padawan to gain his attention. “Excuse me one moment, Tinki.” Before she finished speaking her lightsabre had already activated and easily deflected the bolt the same man had fired at her. She turned her gaze calmly to him, observing the small blaster in his hand and he’d brought in concealed under the lid of the meal. “I am afraid we did not order any food.”

Senna positioned herself between the boy and Tinki carefully; remaining composed as she did and offered the hostile youth a soft smile. “Am I correct to assume this has something to do with the negotiations?” The force had informed her of danger the moment someone knocked on the door, she’d been prepared to protect herself and Tinki if needed. She wondered vaguely if Tinki had felt a similar pull, that if she herself had been late in returning would he have known and protected himself just as well.

The sound of blaster fire filled the air. His training as a young one almost instinctive, his hand was on his belt for his lightsaber already, only to grasp air. With a gasp, the Jawa glanced down. His lightsaber was not on his belt, where it should be! His golden eyes glanced up to the man threatening his Master, and then to Senna herself. She was serene as she drifted to a spot where she could protect Tinki as well. Did she know he had lost his saber? And where could he have lost it?

A blink of an eye passed. The padawan could sense the tension in the air. And then he remembered, he had not wanted to roam the city armed, leaving his lightsaber carefully hidden in the room. He could faintly sense it now that his mind had been drawn to it, waiting where he had secreted it away. He felt the tension leaving his body. He was a member of the Jedi order, and even when it seemed he was in danger, he had the skills and training to be in control of the situation. His stance changed, the tension draining from him, and he held no doubt Senna could feel it as well.

"Lower your weapon, yes yes? Master Senna help protect you, and your people. No need for violence." His fingers twitched in the direction of his hidey hole, ready to use the power of the Force to draw his weapon to him if it was needed.

Senna lowered her chin a touch, her eyes fixed on the young man who could not hide the faint tremble in his hand when his initial shot missed. Clearly he hadn’t calculated on her being able to deflect it and Senna could almost see the wheels in his head turn with rapid thought. “Don’t be foolish.” When she spoke her voice was low but kind, she genuinely didn’t want to hurt the youth rather help him back onto a more noble path if she possibly could. “Tell me why you’re here.”

He trembled again and licked sweat that had formed on his top lip, his grip on the pistol tightened and his finger on the trigger shook from the strain. Senna lowered her saber slowly, not because she did not think the boy had the resolve to shoot again but because she felt the mind trick should not be worked with hostility. Her voice was like honey as she spoke again, echoing in his mind almost as if it was coming from across a large ocean. “Tell me why you’re here.”

“To kill you.” His hand faltered and dipped a little, a slight frown coming to his brow as he struggled to understand why he spoke the words. “The negotiations must fail.”

A soft, sad smile came to Senna’s lips – his voice betrayed him, whilst he was of good height and stance he couldn’t have been more than sixteen or seventeen years of age. A mere boy caught in a tangled web. Still she spoke as calmly as she did before, her questions were clear. “Who sent you?”

He fought hard not to answer this time, the corners of his eyes squinted but in the end he was simply unable to overcome the silent command of the Force. “Black Sun.”

“Why does the Black Sun want the negotiations to fail?”

“They need the hostility, the unrest to be able to sell the guns, slaves and mercs when war comes.”

Again Senna sighed, “Greed.” Her eyes flicked to Tinki as she held her hand out for the blaster and the boy meekly complied, offering it to her without any resistance this time, she felt in his heart he had never wanted to use it in the first place. Senna had always been a kind soul, or so others told her and she couldn’t resist asking. “Do you work for the Black Sun?”

She didn’t need to use the force now, the boy had clearly given up once the blaster left his hand and he shook his head faintly. “N... no. My cousin does, he runs for them on the streets off world. He wanted me to join too, said it was a good way to get ahead and see the universe. I’ve never been off this planet; my family isn’t very well off since my dad passed away.”
Senna raised a brow as she locked the weapon away in one of her drawers and allowed him to speak, “So you turn to murder?”

“I didn’t want too. The guy who was meant to do it, the bounty hunter, he was killed and my cousin kinda told them I was a big wig around these parts. Said if I didn’t, they wold have come for me and my family. “

Senna raised a hand and silenced him; she pressed her communicator calling for the local authorities. She didn’t want to speak to him any further, so sad and heavy was her heart with the situation. Could Tinki see how this weighed on her mind? What did he think of her actions? They’d speak on it later but for now she’d tell the guards what had happened her, all he said to them and ask for leniency, the boy knew his mistakes – hopefully he’d learn from them.

“Tinki, set up the long range communicator for me, please. I need to speak to report this to the temple.”

As vested as his interest in this conversation was, Tinki was a tinkerer first and an eavesdropper second. He was quickly settling about preparing the long range communicator before he even realised he had begun to obey her command. He heard the tale the boy spoke, and his heart was heavy. They could not let this kind of travesty continue, could they? His golden glance crossed to his Master, and he could tell her heart was heavy as well. It was a dark situation. How should they handle it? In his heart, Tinki was not sure. But he did know one thing. "Protect the family, yes yes? Not their fault."

D1 quickly began beeping and whistling at Tinki, and the little Jawa hushed him quietly. It would not do to be bothering Senna during these stressful moments. Once the communicator was ready, Tinki turned to face the boy, head canting to one side slowly. Had he ever been worried about danger? This was not an assassin, it was a cold, lonely child. As much as he knew that calling the authorities was the right thing to do, he wanted to help the boy if he could. After all, if the Jedi had not found Tinki, what would his life be now? The boy had not been as blessed as Tinki had, and the little padawan knew that he would have to do everything he could to help the boy and his family, short of defying Senna herself.

"Ready, Master. Communications green light. Yes yes."
